For the most part, American Christmas specials are dominated by a handful of animated programs made between 1964 and 1970. Fully three of those specials — 1964's Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer , 1969's Frosty the Snowman , and 1970's Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town — hail from the same production studio: Rankin/Bass Productions .
