Thawed: Castro and Obama make history
Barack Obama yesterday announced he had agreed with his Cuban counterpart, Raul Castro, that their countries would restore diplomatic relations for the first time in more than 50 years. Mr Obama also said that he would loosen America's economic embargo against the communist island by allowing more travel, remittances and business ties (only Congress can repeal the embargo itself). And the administration will remove Cuba from its list of state sponsors of terrorism.
